Kama Sutra

Eroticism, the appreciation of the sensual and sexual aspects of life involves all the senses, an interplay of touch, taste, smell, sight and sound. The Kama Sutra is an ancient explicit manual for the art of lovemaking, Traditionally, the first transmission of Kama Shastra or "Discipline of Kama" is attributed to Nandi the sacred bull, Shiva's doorkeeper, who was moved to sacred utterance by overhearing the lovemaking of the god and his wife Parvati and later recorded his utterances for the benefit of mankind (wikipedia). This series of twelve paintings is made with handmade Sikkinese paper treated with a solution of methyl cellulose and cochineal powdered pigment. Mounted above midline on the paper is a 5" x 5" watercolor edged on two sides with strips of gold pigmented paper. The name of each individual piece in the series is derived from phrases in the Kama Sutra text.
